choke problem
I'm in need of your help !!! I've just bought a 1985 Golf Cab in fantastic condition, but when I start the engine, it revs to around 2400 rpm and then a blip on the gas upto 3000 + and its not even cold outside yet !!
I dont plan on the weber carb conversion yet and would like to fix the pierburg 2E (1600cc) i've checked there is a 12v on the choke wire and the pipework looks OK, however I do see the choke flap on the top of the carb is open a few mm and very free to move, the slightest movement and it rocks open so I'm thinking this is my problem, is it the wax controller that manages this or simply adjustment ? any pointers would be a great help as the parts are not so cheap.. i've included a quick pixs ;…
Many thanks Matt

the auto choke is controlled by coolant temp and an electric heater inside the autchoke unit. there should be a coiled spring inside it, remove the choke and check the spring is there and hooked to the control flap correctly. also note there is a notch on it to set the alignment with the main choke housing. if you look inside it closely you'll see another spring inside which is the heater element, if that has snapped you need a new choke unit
for the high revs check the 3/4 point unit retracts a few seconds after starting, if not look at the 2 electrical valves on the back make sure they both ahve ignition live and the vacuum routing is correct as per my 2e2 faq above
