Which additive?

Post

Hi guys,

fairly new to the forum - I have a 1982 GL 1.5litre engine - was originally 4 speed but had a new gearbox over the years (came with the original that this stored away).

I was just wondering if anyone could advise on the best additive to use in the fuel?

Any advice greatly appreciated… thanks.

Why do you want or think you want additive?

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

If it's an additive to reduce the damage from the extra ethanol in E10 unleaded petrol I've heard good things about this stuff.

Or you could use super unleaded as that's E5 then you don't need to worry about any additive.

If it's a lead additive, all water cooled VW engine from 1974 ish  have hardened valves and seats so they are happy to use unleaded petrol.

Hi,

Thanks for coming back to me.

I assumed that it would be better for the engine than just using unleaded…

Is that not the case?

Sorry but I don't understand which additive you mean?

Ethanol stabiliser or lead replacement?

Great - I've only had the car for a couple of months and don't do long journeys so I've been putting the E5 in… I was just thinking longer term.

Good news that I don't need to mess around with an additive.

Thanks guys - more stupid questions from me in the not too distant future!!

I meant lead replacement… but it seems like the Super/E5 is the easiest option.

Thanks again.
