Car keeps jerking
Hello guys…i have a 2006 1.4 carb Golf mk1…recently it has been pinking terribly when I go uphill at a speed…went to take it for a tuneup…was told distributor might be an issue as when they were Using the timing light…it was not constant….so I wasn't able to get the distributor checked…i purchased an aftermarket distributor…had it installed…was told timing was spot on…but there was a slight pinking sound and flat spot…ran more diagnostics and suggested i have the carb looked at as it may be over fuelling when I accelerate..( I don't know what that means).had the carb looked at and was told all is good with the carb…no miss or flat spot detected…now today while using the vehicle….as I pick up speed…it started jerking sooo bad I had to keep choke out a bit just for it to be driven home…i am at my wits end here…dont know what else to try ..i put new Bosch plugs in…could it be the plug leads.(bougie cords)…could it be the fuel pump on the engine…??? Any ideas would be appreciated…thanks…

Your cars a bit modern for me so not sure what carb or ignition system is fitted to later cars as I guess it's an import or you are not in the UK, but "pinking" is down to the timing being out.
On Gti, (DX engine) cars you have to remove the vacuum advance pipe and plug the end to set the timing using a timing light, did the garage do this if you car has this type of dissy.
To set my timing I advance it till it pinks then retard it till it stops as I don't own a timing light and it's so tricky to see down the hole with all the stuff in the way. Also the type of fuel can make a difference with older car but not sure if it's the same with a 2006 car?
