Small breather pipe

Next to fuel tank
First off … It a 1600 EG GTI running stock.
Been investigating my fuel pump and in doing so gave discovered a small breather pipe about the sand size as those connected to the distributer. It's running parallel with the tank on the underside. Round about the middle of the tank pipe stops and is connected to nothing????
Any ideas?

yes small breather pipe it is…not sure if i'm rubbish at reading diagrams, but the conical funnel bit left of 'non return valve'… is it supposed to be NOT connected to anything?
