Fuel pipe conundrum
Hi All,
I'm looking at replacing some fuel pipes mainly the ones connecting the filter to metering pump and filter to fuel line. Mine are showing signs of splitting and currently have pvc tape on I'm guessing to stop air leaks? presently they're split along 75% of the line.
Ive checked Classic vw and heritage and they are out of stock (and expensive) I have looked and read lots of threads and I see some have gone to braided lines or nylon but can the rubber pipe simply be replaced and slipped over the metal ends.
Ive not found any links or alternative pipes available but interested to get some advice on best way forward?

I think the best alternative would be to make up your own, or get some made up, with braided line. From memory it's 3 banjo fittings and one female end. Unfortunately I don't know the sizes, but I'd be confident that the right sizes are available. I doubt you can just replace the rubber pipe and get a good seal on the original fittings. New barbed fittings and proper hose clamps would work though (but wouldn't look as tidy).
I'd add that the part that is split is an outer for the pipe to protect it, and not the pipe itself. The fuel system runs at nearly 5 bar, so tape wouldn't do anything.

Yeah, i think your right on the rubber pipe as i think its only an outer sheaf protecting the inner line which gives me some confidence its not about to split totally? Where or who can make up the braided lines?

Mine is the same at one end. It's not leaking so I'm happy.
That I don't know - I'd do mine myself - it's not a difficult job. Edd China did it on one his recent Workshop Diaries (on Youtube).
If you knew the fitting sizes there a plenty of online places that could probbably make lines up for you.
