Question re Intake manifold

Hi, I would just like to ask around about two things I noticed when playing around with the carburetor on my 1.1 Golf mk1. Firstly there's something coming out of the intake manifold in the bottom left of the image. What is it and what is it used for? should something be attached to it? Secondly, what is that thing circled in the middle of the image? I expect it's related to the heater? Thanks!

does look like a coolant outlet to me, is there another somewhere else on the inlet? is this car a runner or are you currently building it up?

Hi Rubjonny, thanks for your input! The engine is indeed a small block (1.1ltr) and there's no brake servo installed. I just got the car a few months ago. I am having a few issues with the carburettor, hence the air filter is out! Fuel is currently escaping from the fuel bowl vent and into the carburettor horn causing the engine to stall. I suspect there's something wrong with the float needle valve that isn't closing and letting fuel keep pouring into the float chamber. I'll try fixing/replacing it.

I can't wait to get my 1981 golf roadworthy. I has quite a few rusty patches but the car's champagne gold colour still makes it look quite nice. And the interior is spotless! Thanks again

ok fire it up and see if air is being sucked in by that nipple, if so cap it off :)
