pierburg carb heater

Post

Hi people, I have an 87 1.6 carb cabby with a weber 32/34 dmtl fitted, I've been suffering with carb icing due to the person who fitted the weber didn't use the carb heater from the pierburg, or this is one reason anyway lol! Is the 2e2 the only carb with the little heater on it? Is there any other solution that anyone has come up with for resolving this issue?

I've finally sourced one, brand new from classic parts on vwheritage! I found the original part number and found one on there, 40 quid posted with member discount, can't go wrong with that I don't think for brand new part!

My problem is I have a k&n pan filter and I also have a g60 rocker cover fitted too so I can't fit the standard air filter setup back on so was in a bit of a corner lol!

So hopefully this will help me out with the icing, will be better than I have now anyway so there will be some improvement at least :)

If anyone needs the part number it's 026 906 333

try and set up some kind of warm air duct to your pan filter, or mod a std airbox till it fits (chop bottom out and reseal maybe?) mine was a total git for icing even with the heater when the warm air flap wasnt working or when the metal shroud on the manifold fell off

Oh nice, just the news I wanted to hear lol! The other thing I am missing is the hot air shroud on the exhaust manifold so I am at a total loss on how I could make a duct in this case!

My carb does ice up but only if I use too much throttle so I just drive it carefully and I always leave the car til it gets up to temp before driving it as to get a bit of hot air in the engine bay! Is there not a smaller air box I could use like one off a polo or something then use the warm air flap assembly from the golf air box?

on mine i went scrappy huntign and found a later gti small shroud that bolts to rear of manifodl with 2 studs, much easier to fit than the massive one you sometimes see. both the studs obv snappoed on mine so i just put a big jubilee clip round it and problem solved :)
