What year and engine? Tin top or cabby?
I have an 83 GTI, and my centre section runs all the way to the rear, over the axle, and the silencer fits to that. Does your silencer go all the way from the middle section? That pipe doesn't look like it has enough of a curve to go over the rear axle.

Hi Paceman it is a 1983 1.3cl 5 door tintop yeah I can extend the middle pipe and the rear box goes over the rear axle but the curve when its joined won't sit flush because the curve is pushing it down. I will take a pic to show u how it sits. I've dropped the rear axle to give me more room to work with
I will get pics when I go underneath again

Do you have the engine code? That's the 2 letters at the start of the engine number. The 10th digit of the VIN number would be useful, to confirm model year. Both will be on your V5C.

Thank u everyone I think I have it fitted atm. It's not a good match as the pipe doesn't have the curve exactly like the original 1 but it's on so I can eventually get her down from axle stands eventually.

that middle resonator doesn't look like any that I have ever seen, it is a tad bit longer than and oval to what I have seen on Diesels and Cabriolets.
Here are some shots of my resonator and cat in one and the rear in another
My resonators on all my Cabbies, and Rabbits (USA GOLFS) all looked the same Round and about 18" long at the most 24 inches.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

Yeah, cats only became compulsory across Europe on cars manufactured from 1 July 1992, when the Euro 1 emissions standard came into force, though Germany, and possibly some other European countries, adopted them up to a decade earlier.

I'm interested to see how that oval resonator fitted. I have something similar I was to add to my setup.
