Now wehn i start the car from cold it starts fine on a warm day, idles a bit high around 1800rpm. But as soon as i drive for around 5mins the car will slowly bog out and completely cut out. It seems like it over fueling as when it bogs out this is when i can smell fuel and some other funny fuel related smells. But it also seems like its not getting enough fuel, I then try to start the car again but it will just about start and die straight away so i have to leave it around 3-4 mins and keep trying till it start up as normal, but i can only drive for another few mins before it does the same thing.
a few weeks ago was also doing the same thing but it would bog out when i pressed the accelerator half way down, but when i had the car fully warm it was okay for a few hours and then cut off after that.
i also have noticed my throttle heater wire has snapped can this cause the problem im having?
another thing no note is when i switch the car off it jumps and makes some loud noises for a few seconds, any idea why this is happening??
please help thanks@!

She started out saying it wouldn't go over 30mph, and smelled funny.
I could take it out and get it up to 85-90 with no issues.
Then she said one day it will only go about 5 MPH.
Ok, so now it would only go 5 mph for me as well noticed a gas smell and it would backfire occasionally.
I neglected to accurately diagnose it, and took the Carb off and rebuilt it, re-timed it, and it still ran lumpy.
It wasn't until I took the air cleaner off that I had my father start the car, and it idled great. I gave it gas and fuel was spraying up out of the carb, and it acted the ass.
The issue was that the silencer (muffler) over here had rusted out from the top and caved in. One of its internal baffles was plugging the exhaust in basically choking the engine and cause so much back pressure that the pistons were pressurizing the intake and gas was being expelled….instead of ingested…
I would separate the exhaust at the manifold and verify that it isn't an exhaust issue first.
Oh, and the second time this car did it, I dropped the muffler to find it too was rotted from the top. The bottom side looked brandy new…
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

I had a similar issue on a Toyota my wife drove.

also make sure carb rubber flange isnt split, the warm air pipe and shroud on exhaust is there, plus make sure the stud on the front of the airbox and steady bracket that braces it to the head are present. dont rule out the basic stuff such as ignition service with quality bosh/beru make parts:
