Fuel lines in rear arch

Post

Hi guys , I have a 81 mk1 Gti , it's been in for welding and is ready for me to assemble again , what I'm asking is this , the fuel lines in the rear arch ……. Is there supposed to be some sort of mount up high in the arch to keep the lines up high ? I have the small arch liner , then the pipes come out of the top of that and just sag/hang down , I can't see a way of keeping them up high ? Help/pictures is hugely appreciated , cheers guys / girls

Mine is an 83, but there are no fuel lines in the rear arch. Well, certainly nothing on view that I can remember. Sorry I don't have any pictures, but the fuel lines on mine come straight out if front corner of tank, into fuel pump and then forward.

looking on some diagrams for the carburettor models, looks like there are a few (overflow?) pipes on that model coming down close to filler neck pipe. Hopefully someone will be on soon to get you an answer, if not I'll try and have a look underneath tonight.

They should go up intot the arch . I think 1 is a breather , and the other 2 are connected to a valve ????

Not sure how it is on the 1981 Golfs and guess your is a tin top but it sound like you have a later fuel tank and pipe set up as on my 1988 cabriolet GTi I have the valve up inside the wheel arch so if you roll the car it will cut the fuel off so it does not come out of the fuel tank. There is a bracket and some foam at the end of the plastic wheel arch liner which hinds it all away.
