Hi all,
After several years of hot starting issues I have decided to replace my fuel accumulator. I did the test of undoing the small screw and fuel dribbled out.
I have a new Bosch Accumulator. Is it just a case of undoing the connections and swapping the accumulator for the new one or does the tank have to be drained ?
My car is a 1.8 gti if it makes any difference.
Many Thanks !

It is just a case of undoing the connections and swapping out, but be prepared for the connections to be hard to remove. Being under the car means they get can get pretty corroded. Suggest a good spray with a decent penetrating oil (failing that WD-40).
When I refitted mine I put a bit of copper grease on the threads of the accumulator so that if I ever have to take it off again, it won't be seized on. Just keep it on the threads!

Avoid the temptation to try and disconnect the pipes that connect to the hard lines. If you do you will very likely shear the hard line and that's a whole world of trouble. Lots of penetrating oil. If you can get proper pipe spanners (they grip more edges than an open ended spanner then that might help.

have fun… normally come off ok juct make sure you dont twist the hard lines , are cracks and pin hole leaks occur.. try classic-vw for the new pipes, ask for kennys staff discount.
