DX air box setting help!

1.8 gti

Guys, I put a Porsche 924 throttle body on the 1.8gti. Trouble is it runs like a bag of spanners on idle, doesn't like starting from cold and melts your face with fumes.
At the mot the guy wound the air box adjustment right down to pass emmissions.
I've subsequently discovered this is factory set and I should have adjusted the mixture screw on the throttle body.
Does any one know where the box adjustment should be set e.g 2.5 turns up etc. I want to get back to stock so that if I can't play with the throttle body I can go back to stock cheers in advance.

the throttle body screw is the idle speed, the mixture is the 3mm allen key screw found deep in the airbox

what you'll need is a proper CO meter, set it to around 1.8% then adjust the idle screw to get the rpm at around 900.

check the timing before you do the above though, make sure cam and crank are spot on TDC and the ignition timing around 6-8 degrees BTDC  at idle with the vac pipe disconnected and plugged (line up the big diamond on flywheel)

and check over the rest of the kjet system, this thread covers all the basic kjet checks:

Cheers for the above, I got  on a co2 tester and was seriously over fueling, after winding the 3mm hex anti clockwise the things settled a bit, then adjusting the idle it got better. Lots of fiddling!   However, I discovered a screw missing on the bottom of the throttle body, it holds the second throttle in place (a bit like the one the throttle cable rests against) not sure what difference it made alone but by adjusting so there is direct contact between both inlets and then
with a bit of adjustment and further air box tweaking I now have an uprated throttle body running in mot levels idling at 950ish rpm!! 😊

yeah 'a lot of fiddling' describes kjet tuning

So now it's running right…. The question is how do I upset it by tuning it to get more power out of a dx 1.8gti?!

well theres the old classic of changing the throttle body and wur for audi/mk2 16v items :)

if you can find a kstar unit that allows you to tune the map, or better yet kstar+fuel as it can tune the fuel map a well. though you'll need to find a mapper who can talk kstar, and most of those are long since retired I expect
