Carburetor/Air filter problems - Petrol soaked filter

Checked it again a day later, to find that petrol was still coming out the top of the carburetor and the air filter was dirty again. Mopped that up, cleaned the air filter components and replaced the heat exchange pipe. Air filter is about 1/3 petrol soaked, but haven't changed it yet in case I start going through air filters pretty quickly.
Since then the problem still happens, although very slowly, and I just keep a check on it+clean up any petrol often as I can. Any ideas what might be causing the problem? Incorrect mix of air/fuel? Dirty carburetor? Will changing the air filter again fix the problem?
Any help appreciated, would investigate further myself, but it's my daily driver and don't have the money/time to go playing about with it too much.
Thanks in advance

if i was you i would get a spare carb and give that a full work over/rebuild then swap it. worst cvase can always swap your old one back if tyhe replacement doesnt work or you run out of time trying to tune it. come back to it the next weekend etc till you sort
I would keep a fire extinguisher in the car if you plan to keep using it, as any stray spark or backfire could send the filter up in flames and it'll burn pretty well if petrol soaked!
