8mm id fuel pickup/level sender what years?

Post

Doing a 20v t conversion on my 1300 driver.  Tryingvto sort the fuel system out, have run 8mm id injector hose from the engine bay to the tank.  Have mounted a facet red top under the car as a lift pump to a swirl pot and walbro injector pump in the engine bay.

The problem i have is i fitted a repro gti tank, which has no pickup built in.  The 1300 fuel pickup is only 6mm id and dont want to run the risk of starvation.

Are there any pickups/senderz thay have 8mm id pipes without a lift pump built in?

Cheers

I've never seen a mk1 sender with 8mm lines that didn't have the lift pump.

Why not use the late cab/mk2 scirocco liftpump to feed the swirl?

Unfortunately for me i didnt realise there was a difference in fuel feed pipe id's between the 1300 and gti :(

So i bought the facet and bits to run with what i had.

Recently been looking at lift pump setups in tank, not that easy to source and the ones that come up are expensive!

Maybe i could modify one with a nackered luft pump (for cheapness) and just remove the luft pump and extend the fuel pickups?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

if you have a GTI tank why not use the factory fuel pump feed on the bottom for the feed, and return up top for the return?

weird, even repro gti tanks should have the 2 fittings, they're just sold as diesel ones with inferior internal swirl pot. you're a bit stuck then as the only level sender units with outlets are either carb ones, or later gti cabrio/rocco or g40 shape polo lifter pump units

If it has no bottom feed then it must be just a carb tank, which means a later lift pump is the only choice really.. the last one I sold went for a LOT of money!

Just been out and double checked.

Definatly no bottom feed, so im stuffed:(

Not up for undoing all my work with removing the beam and dropping the tank, was a mission when it was rolled on its side on the jig so would be awful laid on my back :(

Will have to keep an eye out for a lift pump setup.  Hopefully one with a nackered pump to help with the price with a view to modify the pickup to still use my facet.

Thanks for your help guys

you could find some 8mm elbow fittings and attach to a gti sender, or pull the fittings out of a carb one and ream it out to accept 8mm fittings?

Aren't the 6mm pipes brazed in? could probably remove them and replace with 8mm..

Good idea rj, its plastic with brass tubes.

Will take a look at separating it tonight!

Drilled out the supply pickup and cut the elbow off the top.

Drilled up to 10mm o/d and have filed a 1/3 off the side of some 12mm i/d pipe to resin to the plastic down shroud as its no longer thick enough to support the pickup tube now its drilled oversize.

Going to source some 8mm i/d ali pipe to fab up the pickup, going to use a brake pipe bender to form the top elbow and the bottom angle once its resin'd in position and flare the hose connections.

Cheers for the info and thoughts chaps!
