Hot starting problems
Hi Dub dudes,
Anyone got any ideas why my engine wont start when its hot? It starts fine when cold, auto choke kicks in etc then idles fine when warmed up, drives good etc. BUT when i try to start from hot it just cranks over for ages and nothing happens. Sometimes it will eventually start but barley ticks over and runs very lumpy for 10 seconds or so. If i place the throttle slowly to the floor then start it, it starts but sounds terrible and i get a massive cloud of black smoke out the exhaust! The ignition system is all new as is the starter motor. I read online it could be vapour lock in the carb but no idea how to stop it. Any ideas are muchas grazias appreciated!

I had an issue like this as well. I got a new dizzy cap and spark plugs, this seemed to stop the not starting when hot. I also got a mechanic to check out the carb but they said there was nothing wrong with it.

Check the metering head. I had the same issues, swapped it, cleaned out the tank of rust and a new filter and it's sorted… So far!!
Edit - 25/09/2020,
The problem returned after my post above.
I took the car to a Bosch specialist in Chorley, Lancs and gave them a list of what had been replaced. They replaced the warm up regulator and fuel pump and it solved the issue after years and years of failed starts.
Wish I sought out a professional years ago instead of my local garage.

Cheers dudes, turned out the choke coil was on the wrong way so it was closing the choke flap when it was hot!

I just got stuff from a local parts merchants that wasn't a brand I had heard of. I think the Bosch stuff is meant to be good though
