What is this wire?

Hi guys. First post. And the quedtion might not be an easy one.
Car is 1987 Golf Cabriolet with 1.8 8v (DX) engine.
Would anyone have an idea what is this wire in the engine bay, and where should it go? Its coming out from the wire loom. Looks brown-white to me.
Would anyone have wiring diagram for the car?

That is an earth wire that should go to one of the studs on the rocker cover. You can get all kinds of weird dash related issues without that earth connected.
