So…went to upgrade my motor from the SWF mk1 motor to a mk3 motor… ran into a problem half way through…the motors seem to be "handed" differently. So basically with the motors laying on the table in the same orientation, the spindle location is different (see photos below).
Have I gone wrong here? I'm confused how you make this work…

put the mk2/3 motor back together again and bolt it on, then cut a length of loom from a donor car and either splice that to your car harness or crimp spades on the wires and push them into the mk1 plug

I was keen to utilize the mounting point, so I've sourced a US spec mk3 cabrio motor which should fit the bill. Cheers anyway mate.

Just a heads up for anyone who cares / wants to do this themselves at some point. Changing the mk3 motor from a USA mk3 cabrio (1HM 955 023 C) does work from a mk1 SWG motor.
Just got it up and running in mk 1983 3 door. The backplate of the mk1 motor does require modification to get it to fit the mk3 motor (holes drilling out bigger, extra holes drilled, edges taken back for clearance etc) but it did fit
