RESULT! Coolant Temp Sensor Replaced............
I was having an issue with the engine coolant temp gauge not working on my Cabby, replaced the temp sender and the gauge now moves, get in, however I'm now worried that it is under reading as it was very slow to move at first and only managed the second line as per the image and this was just as the fan kicked in, not sure what exact temp the coolant was at but it was fairly hot, can anyone tell me what temps the lines represent? It may be that it is working fine but I was reluctant to let it run any hotter in case I damaged the engine. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
PJ

The fan normally kicks in at 3/4 and takes the guage down to 1/2 one stopped.
Check which sensor you have fitted, what colour is it?

Normal running 1/2 way the 1st line is about when the thermostat opens and the far line is its getting very hot, beyond that turn the engine off!

It has a blue body and plug Mark, its the one at the 6 o'clock position on the coolant flange

Sorry can't be much help on those type of sensors as I've got the early type which screws into the flange so not had any experience with them.
Not much help from here as well as they don't seem to list the sensors for the later type just the early type? That one seems to be black?????
Have a search on this site or call your local VW dealer and they should be able to tell you what part number and colour sensor you need.
