Replacement Dash lights

1984 MK1 Golf GTI Cabriolet 1.8

Following Briano1234 example I have fitted LED to the dash lights, really great improvement.

I am intending picking up a positive 12 volts from the headlight switch for the three LED's (fused), can anybody confirm the cable core colour from the headlight switch.

I already converted the actual head lights to LED's via a relay 12v direct from the battery, again huge improvement.

To power your headlights (relayed) you will just need 2 relays.  One for low and one for high's.

You can make a simple thing overly hard or use the Kits that are available from Amazon.

Yes this is exactly how I did the headlights and make a huge difference; I bought the kit as above and advised.

What I need is help with the LED dash lights I fitted.

I need to pick up 12vots from the Off/On switch. could you advise the correct core colour for the dash lights to come on when the head lights are on

The LED dash lights are polarity aware.
If they don't work as they are installed,  take them out and reverse them.  

The feed into the dash should be Grey/Blue for the 12V in. Ground is on pin 2.

That is the normal wire for a 84 Cabriolet.  I don't have access to my earlier golf books

As for the color, I can't help you but to say that they are originally white.

Shouldn't said polarity aware, even tho it is.  I should of said it is Polariized.

Should of said they are usually polarized, and if you have them bassackwards they won't work so turn them around.  If you have a dvom with a led tester, use that to power the  bulbs so you know which side gets the Positive and which gets the negative and mark the ground side.  



On your cluster find the ground plate of your 10V stabilizer.  DVOM in Resistance or ring mode and attach one lead there, then to one side og the cluster socket see it it is 0 Ohms or rings  the meter.  that is the ground side so orient the bulb so that it is negative on negative.

If it doesn't ring, then use the other side of the lamp mount and it should ring or 0 Ohm.  Then that is the ground side and orient the ground to ground.
