Intermittent issues
Hoping that someone can help before I park the car up & forget about it. 50% of the time the car (a 93 Clipper convertible only 76000 on the clock which left the factory with a 1.8 fuel injected CIS engine) runs fine, the other 50% it's a pain in the A–SS. It won't start then if it does it won't hold the revs & dies. This morning & on several occasions in the past the speedo jumps right around to 120mph even when the car isn't moving.
I have changed the injectors, leads, cap, rotor arm, plugs, fuel pump relay, lift pump & main fuel pump but the problem still exists, I have spoken to a few so called experts and asked if it could be the ecu that is faulty only to be told that the mk1 doesn't have an ecu! But mine certainly does & it left the factory with it.
I have even had it die on me when doing 60mph on a duel carriageway whilst overtaking. I am now at the point where I don't know what to do next so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say but my 90's were all digifant2. Cis can be bothersome, and the ECU would be for a Kjet.

Hey Brad.
Dunno if this helps but I'm resurrecting an Australia delivery '91 Cabrio K-Jet-with-lamda that I've had in my mother's garage for past 16 years. I've replaced the tank, lift pump and main pump. Fuel accumulator leaks so that's on the list but I imagine this is only needed for warm start.
16 years ago I was smart enough to pull the injectors and fuel distributor and seal them in a bag with lots of WD40, so they're fine. It sort-of starts but won't run. I've been told fuel return should be 800ml for 30-60 seconds if you power the pumps directly … I have 250ml so it's almost certainly fuel blockage or maybe the lift pump, which I've been told is critically needed in this K-Jet variant (but not other variants oddly enough … strange).
Maybe also fuel blockage or lift pump issue for you? Lastly, I can confirm my car also has an ECU. Good luck

Thanks for your replies all, since the initial post the car seems to be behaving itself even though this has happened in the past. I will just have to use it and hope that it doesn't happen again.
