Is it possible to swap 171941821 B Fusebox for a D type plug and play?

My 1982  GLI has had water ingress in the past and the corroded fusebox has a mind of its own so I'd like to replace it. It's the early type with ceramic fuses and the external add-on fuel pump extension. Is it possible to convert to a later type of fusebox with blade type fuses insteed of the daft prehistoric type currently fitted?
