intermittent wipers not working?

Post

Hey all,

My 1983 cabriolet, wipers only work on full wack.
Any of the other positions on the stalk just do nothing.

I've replaced the relay as I was ordering some parts anyways. No difference.
This part: https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/321955531a-intermittent-wiper-relay.html

I replaced my blower motor the other week, having to remove the wiper motor in the process and it looks like it's been messed with, there is a braised on mounting plate as well as the connector isn't mounted in place anymore.

Should I be looking at the motor as a suspect or is there some common wiring thing with these?
Anyone have the pinout for that connector? What voltages should I be seeing on which pins?

Also not sure if this is normal, but on full the wipers do not automatically park, I have to time it correctly to make sure they're all the way down.

Cheers,
Alex

There is a thread on converting a mk1 wiper motor over to a mk2.

So you recon i should swap the motor out with a newer model? Not against doing that! sounds like a decent idea.

just wondering if anyone has any idea what voltages i should be seeing on the plug for the various positions on the wiper stalk so i can verify it's not a wiring issue

The varying speed issue could be the relay, and or the stalk.

so

Do the washers work, and the wiper when you pull the stalk to clean the windscreen?

If you jumper the wiper motor wiring, do they speeds vary?

Try jumper the two non brown wires to 12V+ one at a time and see if the motor will work on both speeds.

If they do, then the issue is your stalk or your relay.
I would ring out the wires to the switch  the to the motor.

Then the switch back to the fuse panel.

I had the relays act up a few times when trying to park ot in intermittent, that I would clean and reset the relay which usually fixed it.

Inside of the motor there is the parking switch that activates the motor momentarily to park them.
