At a loss https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/themes/default/images/ocf_emoticons/angry.png
So car just started cutting out so from info on here worked out fuel relay.
got a new one and went 100yds cut out waited 10mins and started.
thanks to Briano told me about how to test, what I would say never in my 10yrs of having the car had I heard the buzz noise when the key turned but I did with the new relay.
So today did some tests drove 100yds car stopped put old relay in car started drove 100yds car stopped again since then about 4hrs car wont start with either relay on new relay I still here the buzz kick in so it is not the relays. also put number 8(17 on my pics) relay in number 2 and buzz noise again but this time didn't stop but still wont start.
I have attached some pics incase I am missing something do I need a new fuse board?
Please help going to take it to the scrappy soon!!!!

The no 2 relay and the replacement topran is now no longer working I suspect yesterday they burnt out the relays appear to be over heating.
My relay number 2 is 321906059d the replacement that topran sent was 103 420 755 says on box replacing 321906059f so I will have to find a 2nd hand direct replacement for the 321906059d
Think I still me to try the wire trick? As I am sure it's the relay I hope so it's driving me nuts
Thanks as always

Tried the wire trick and I can hear the pump kicking in. However I also tried the faulty relay and it started the car after 2 days of not starting it does that make sense.? I imagine if I took it for a spin it would just stall as it appears to over heat.
Still going to buy a new fuel pump relay and decided to replace number 17 (8) as its getting very hot and shows signs of water damage.
Hoping fingers crossed that does it but my MK1 has been a test from god and hopefully I get some luck….

It could be you have a blockage somewhere and the fuel pumps are struggling to pump the fuel hence the fuel pump relay etc gets hot as it needs more power to run????

When checking inside the tank just don't use a match

The 84.5 Cabriolet CIS is when they started to use in-tank pumps as they went from a 10 gallon to a 13 gallon tank.

Wait for it after all this it seems the clip had fallen off the Hall sender and it was coming loose forcing the car to stall. While the car was running moved a few wires and it cut out traced to the Hall sender and bingo! well I have driven it a few miles without it stalling so hoping I cracked it.
Also sent today fixing the washer pump as it wasn't working thanks again to this site traced back to connector not touching on stalk. Another problem solved
Going for the rear wheel bearing and oil leak this week.
thanks again for all your help for the moment me and GTI are back in love! lol
