Fuel pump relay help

Post

Hi all, firstly I would like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way in getting my caddy from a rolling rust bucket to a truck that's virtually mot ready!! However last week my fuel pump stopped working after a lot of winning so I purchased another one and thought that I would research how best to wire it in some say independent relay which is fine but what goes where I understand from reading other topics in theory what goes where, the other thing I read is that direct from fuse box, so what's better and how do I exactly wire it, in laymens terms please! I have a cabby fuse box but there is no pin in e-14 so I presume that I would need to do that, I also noticed on a fuse no 5 there was a small amount of meting around the fuse , also at the moment it has no power to either the fuse or the relay area ? So how does that work?
When it was wired in previously it was wired independently to the fuse boxing the a relay  but I think only to the ignition using permameny live coil wire and ignition live ? I think,
So bacsically can I have the idiots guide including wire colours and anything I would need to do it properly , as although it ran and ran well I don't think it was particularly safe!
Thanks again for all your help

Whining?  What year and model of Car please, CIS or Digi, or Carbed…. Inquiring minds want to know.

Part number of relay and brand would be nice as well.

The fuel pump is powered off the Coil usually.
The fuel pump can be located with in the Fuse Panel, and or as an accessory port on the top of the relay panel as a TSB redirected it there on certain models.

Which is why I need to know, and if the pump was whining, dependant on the year and type of injection, you may have 2 pumps and a sump, and if the second or intank pump is bad that can cause the main to whine louder than a child at a candy store when you try to pull them away.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

wiring wise if you buy a mk1/2 kjet 8v fuel relay its dead easy. all the feeds are taken care of internally on the trigger side, you just run your fuel, pump power to e/14 and its done.

put 2 wires on e/14, one straight to the fuel pump and one with a male spade on it. then plug the WUR and AAV red/white power wire to the spade

Thanks for the all the help that's all wired in now sweet as a nut! Running good starts first time every time, so I'm working through my list  for the mot next week so I tied up the engine bay and fuel system and moved accumulator and snapped the pipe from the fuel pump to the accumulator (mines in the engine bay caddy) and I replaced it with a spare I had and now it won't start I've change the accumulator  to filter pipe also whilst I was there and now it wont start, fuel pump is working fuel getting to cold start valve and there is spark both at coil and plugs timing was  fine as I just done it last week ?
What could be not right??
I've checked for leaks and have none I pulled the plug out thinking I might have flooded with it and they were all  dry as nun, so I don't think any fuel is getting to block? I thought accumulator ? Or pipes but don't see how it was working one minute and now it's not ?
Thanks in advance
Kris

have a read of this, go thru the basic checks for the kjet system
http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?195423

go back and look at the pipes you replaced, make sure non of the banjo bolts have a filter in where they shouldnt. pull the feed pipe off the pump and look for a mesh basket which might be blocked.  I've had non-return valve fail and  not let fuel thru, plus I've had fuel filters go all of a sudden too
