Are all tweeters the same?

Post

I have a 91 cab with the factory door-mounted tweeters, one of which is non-functional (I'm on the lookout for a replacement, but that's another story).

I have a couple of standard-looking Pioneer tweeters at home, I was thinking I could just rip out the internals and fit them into the little factory grills, but when I connected them to the door wiring, they're absolutely silent. Not "quiet", but silent. I was expecting them to make a racket and then I'd figure out if I needed a crossover or not. I wasn't expecting silence.

I guess they could both be broken? Seems unlikely though. So my question is ... I understand how speakers and crossovers work, but why are these silent?

If you take a 9V dc battery and scrape it on the wires for the original tweeter, if the speaker is good you should hear static or popping.  If that happens then your power amplifier in the door is bad, wire is broken is bad.

Since you placed something else in it's place then it didn't work then you have to divide and concur the circuit.

In the back of the Bentley there are schematics as to if you have powered system or an aktive system, it could be that you have a broken wire in there somewhere.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

The door wiring is good, the other factory tweeter works in it's place.
