Our 1979 MK1 has the voltmeter and oil pressure gauges in the centre console. We are new to the car and noted they werent working so i took out the centre console and found none of the wires were connected on the car end.
Are there specific places in the loom or fuse box to connect these? Note there is an additional defunct toggle switch there also.

The oil pressure gauge needs to have the VW Oil Pressure can installed on the rear of the head as there are 2 functions to it. One is Low Oil pressure t idle lamp in clocks, and the other is a oil pressure sender. If you are buying a new oil pressure switch stay away from generics or cheap ones as they aren't accurate enough. They usually go for 50-70 USD.
This is on my 93 Cabriolet.

blue is for the in-clock low pressure at idle, where as the blue yellow is the oil pressure that goes to the center console

I only have one wire on my oil pressure sensor - see attached photo. Perhaps they were trying to upgrade the centre console?
Is there an easy test I can do to see if the existing sensor is functional for which I assume is the dash oil warning light? I am happy to run a new wire for an upgraded sensor.
Also in the same photo I have circled in yellow what I assume is the engine cooling water temp sensor?
In an extra photo is a sensor of the transmission. What would this be exactly?

The one on the head is the low oil pressure at idle sensor that makes the light flicker on the dash at idle.
The one circled on the water outlet is probably for the engine temp/cold start temp sensor.

Can I upgrade the sensor on the head to do both? What year did they start to do both alarm and sender?
