When was A pillar trims fitted to tintop GTI's?

From what point was the exterior A pillar trims fitted to tintop GTI's? Was they fitted on all 1.8 models or only late 1.8's? As I've seen various 1.8's with and without them, is there a set date they were fitted from?

I thought they were on all series 2 GTi's but think last time i said thta was told they were an 82 model year addition so x reg i think.
