Cabby window and boot lock issue

Post

Hi all,

I'm new to mk1 golf's and new to the forums.
I've just picked up a cabby and have some niggly issues to fix.

Firstly, the passenger window won't open. I've taken the door card off and where I expected easy access to the winding mech, I can't actually get to the part I want to see. I think the glass might be rubbing on the door lock mechanism. Anyone else seen this!?

Also the car was supplied with a boot lock key but it doesn't unlock the boot! Any idea how I can get in without breaking anything?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Boot.

Remove the Parcel Shelf
now you will see a cardboard cover
Use a Popper tool to remove the 6 clips on the cardboard.

You will see the lock, remove the 2 screws that hold it in place.
Spray the outer seal with some WD40, and then push the lock out.  Disconnect the rod, and by Pulling down on it you should be able to open your Trunk.

With the lock out, you can remove the pin that holds the
Rod lever arm from the lock.

You can now Push the lock out, and then rekey the wafers to only use your ignition Key, wheich is the key of choice for all locks on the Cabby.

Come to think of it if your key is a Valet Key, it will not unlock the trunk, but unlock the Drivers door, and turn the ignition.  It will not work the glove box lock.

Window glass.  What are you trying to get to.

Thanks a lot for all that info.
Regarding the boot. How do you take the parcel shelf out from inside without breaking it?

For the door, I'm not sure which bit I need access to, but I've just changed all the locks to have ignition and doors on one key, and when I swapped the passenger door, the closing/locking mechanism looked like it was blocking the glass. I was hoping to get to that from the inside but this what I see.

To remove the parcel shelf, you take a screw driver and gently pry the edge of the parcel shelf to "pop it out of the holders on the sides.

You pull the top edge of the seat back to release it from the rear seat, you can't me put pressure on the seat back when you are pulling it.

Oh and the Top is up.

The Door lock 2 finger pawls can be too long on some newer style handles and you should use your original pawls in them.  I have seen this issue as they can scrape the glass.  You can also adjust the window in and out by the 2 10mm bolts on the rear back corner of the door bottom.

I hated having 3 keys for my new to me Cabriolet, So I removed the Handles, Trunk and Glove box lock, and re-keyed them all the same that Is I used wafers and re-organized them to match my ignition key.

It is in the link of my original post.  You can also take your Old locks out and use them in the new handles.
Or remove the wafers out of your old locks in your new barrels.

Thanks, will give the boot a try.

For the locks, I kept all the original handles and mechanisms and just swapped the barrels.
I'll check for bolts for the window, thanks. I think have to take the handle off again to see where it's rubbing.
Can the door shut mechanism be taken off easily? The bit that latches the door to the chassis? Could be better access to where the window might be catching.

If you changed the handles and they are now rubbing and only the Handles it is your handles that need fixing.

If you pull the handles back out, then you can look at the Pawls to see where they are rubbing and possible file them a wee bit.

If you swapped the Barrels, then take the wafers out of your old lock Cylinders and put them in your new barrels so you can use but one key.

The window didn't work before. I didn't change the handles just the barrels.
I've got matching locks already with one key for all. Just haven't managed to get the boot lock open yet to swap that.
