How I opened jammed sunroof
Just thought that I'd share how I unjammed a totally stuck sunroof. I recently purchaed a tintop GTi Campaign edition for restoration, which has been sat for MANY years. Sunroof was completely siezed. After removing the planet gear (behind the handle) and soaking it in WD40 overnight, I managed to free it, but the sunroof still wouldn't budge. In the end I used the following technique:
1. Remove the headling material from the inner sliding panel. In my case the headlining is ripped and due for replacement anyway, to removal was easy!
2. At the front of this panel there are 5 metal spring clips. When these are prised out the inner panel can be separated from the sunroof and slid backwards.
3. The sunroof attachment screws are now exposed, Apply lots of WD40 and carefully remove them with the correct Phillips #2 (NOT Pozi) screwdriver.
