Hi all
Gotta fit a new sliding sunroof outer seal and was wondering if it makes any difference where the join ends up, looks like the original join was halfway along the shorter edge of the panel on the drivers side but I was gonna join it halfway along the longer rear edge, does it make any difference though ?, any advice appreciated
cheers

I thought where you are going to put the joint now, long edge at the back of the roof was where the orginal vw seal would have been.
I could be wrong as it was a few years ago I had a Mk2 golf with a steel sun roof.

That's what I thought too, thought that maybe this damaged seal had been changed at some point in the past so checking where it should be originally.
Thanks for the reply

I have recently replace the original seal off my car which had the join half way along the driver side door, if that makes sense.

I know it's been a while since this thread began but can the seal be fitted without removing the sunroof from the car? Mines a little tatty and could do with replacing but don't really want to pick apart all the headlining.

its got to be done with the roof out, but no need to mess with the headliner. open the roof half way and pull down on the leading edge of the inner trim to unclip it from the panel. close the roof while sliding the trim back then all the fixings that attach the roof panel to the sliding mech are revealed. undo those and pop the panel out from above
when refitting take care not to push the inner trim inside the roof hole, you cant fish it out unless you remove the outer panel again. made that mistake before
and you want the roof seal join to be half way along the side as per factory. if you put it at the back as suggested above you'll find it keeps getting pulled off when working the sunroof

! Any ideas where I can buy a new seal for that part of the sunroof or what the part number is? I'm not too sure which bit to order!
