Steering wheel small spline to large

Hi I’m trying to fit a omp steering wheel to my caddy. Currently I have a small spline however the steering wheel I bought (secondhand) came with a large spline boss and a small to large adapter. What I need to know when I fit the adapter do I need to remove the large spring that is currently on the column.

I think your answer is yes.  The Spring Keeps the upper bearing and race tight in the steering shaft column.
