There was some one on the vwvortex that was selling repro's but you had to give them your build date as that is what it actually is.
You can make your own, but would require you to get a set of reverse lettered dies, and a piece of aluminum or tin

That may be the result of a previous injury to the slam panel and they fitted one from a wreckers and didn't switchover the build date tin.
Seen it before.
If you want to get an accurate build date then you would have to make your own.

the slam panel matches the boot sticker, just that there is a 6 year diff from build date to reg date

Oh I did not know that was the build date… I'd better go and have a look when my car was built….

Thank you, I paid a few bucks to have the Genuine VW museum Birth Cert, I see that as of late they did go up in price.
I know of a Car Dealership over here that has a 88 Cabriolet with about 400 Miles, it is never driven, never registered so I suspect that over here if you bought it, it would be a 88 first registered in 2018/19…. . So that is how that could happen if the Dealership's owner had used his Dealer Plates (as he have over here) for one of his kids or wife to use…. then sold it later…
