Roof loosen

Hi all,

I am looking to get my cabby painted in a month or so if this covid-19 can get lost, thing is I want it to look good so dont fancy cutting corners on silly things.
Can i slackened off the rear tension cable and remove it out the track so the whole rear area can be properly prepped and painted?
Dont fancy removing the whole roof.

Open the hood fully.
Remove the C pillar cap seals.
The square block by the main hinge.
This gives you access to the rear cable stud ends.
Raise hood halfway.
Use a 10mm flexi head ratchet spanner.
Once the nuts are off work the cable out from under the side edges and make sure they’re clear from the body.
Feed the ends out of the side opening.
Pull cable from rear cable channel.
You can fold the hood inside the car mask off all round to keep dust etc out the car.

Me again!

So as it sits right now if I release a good bit of tension on the roof I can access the bolts for the cable… can I just reach in and remove them??
Or I'm I being greedy and trying to short cut it to much?

We acsess the stud cable nut from the taking the C pillar cap seals out.

Otherwise it’s undoing headliner etc so your making more work.

The side inner liner wasn't fixed at all just tucked down so I just slackened the nuts off and pulled the cable ends as you suggested and it came out a treat.

Headliner panel’s are glued and pulled over the metal spikes under the parcel shelf supports.
Otherwise the headliner don’t look right.

Check that metal plates are still behind the bodywork too.
The screws for the hood trims go in there.
Otherwise the screws rock up and down eventually pulling a hole through the bodywork.
I’ve had new painted cars bought to the workshop for new hoods etc and had to send them back because the bodyshop not repaired them.

You can drop a couple of spire clips over and weld tack in place.

Wowsers I have seen rust on those that I have had to clean and prep, but never like that…

I would be looking at new "c-Pillar" pig tail seals.

Welcome to rainy old England.
Daily basis at the workshop.
So many cars come in all new shiny paint then you take the top off and find it’s rotten.
They just mask around the top and paint.
Years ago it was ok to go out to fit a top, but I’m finding here in the UK. Most need work.
One chap had a guy drive out to fit his hood in the works car park.
But the trims are all wonky at the sides because it’s rotten.
The guy just carried on lol even snapping the latching handle off and leaving it on the passenger seat.

The worst ever was on my Green cabby where I had to cut out the back section of cable tray and weld in a new section…..  

Most I clean the rust get it smooth, then prime it and paint it….. As you can't see it, I usually go epoxy flat black…..  I usually never see it like you see it, I guess it is the Salt Air…..

Yes Sir,
I’d say 9 out of 10 need some attention in those areas.
We’ve ended up having to re paint newly painted cars because the new paint is damaged by the welding.

Hmm, mine just has the holes in the main body, no extra strengthening behind, is that something I can buy or just make 1 up?

Drill small hole so when it's all done you can screw the hood cover trims in place.

I love what you call things over there as in "spire clips"
We Call those things "Speed Nuts", and they come in sheet metal screw or a pitched thread over here…
