Pressed metal plates

Post

Hi all im after some pressed plates for my golf, the thing is though i dont want the usual GB on the blue background on the left, im after the german flag colours on the left with no euro sign. Do you think this will be possible as ive asked a couple of companies off flea bay and they said they just dont do them.
Anyone know of a place that do fully custom pressed number plates.

Cheers.

I belive you should only be using them at shows as they are illegal for road use, if the police are bored they might give you a ticket and fine for them.

dubmeister or I used show plates on ebay a while back, you may need to click the "show plates" button for them to make them without asking you to send all your docs etc  ;)

You do see some odd looking illegal number plates on car driving on the road, you can use them but I was just letting you know incase you do get stopped, its up to you if you want to take the risk just keep the legal ones either in the boot or safe at home.

yea but they need to be reflective, be stamped at the bottom (postcode and maker?) UK font and either be marked GB or nothing.

"D" "Ger" "German font" = illegal

as rich said, dubmeister.co.uk do road legal pressed plates

How about getting the plain pressed plates and then either adding a sticker or even better, getting the flag air-brushed on, that would be proper euro style!

in the UK I think now the only thing you can have on the left is the blue block and GB etc, I am sure a tazmanian devil is not legal

I'v had problems with pressed plates in the past, i got road legal ones, got a ticket, went through so much rubbish with police, every traffic officer and police officer was 100% sure they were illegal. I kept on at the officer and after several trips to the station and proving to them and even having proof from the DVLA that they were legal, the officer revoked and cancelled my ticket!! It was the first time he'd EVER had to cancel a ticket because he was wrong in his whole 20 years of being a traffic officer. I got such a kick out of it and knew i was right all along. Was such fun proving them all wrong!

My plates were from http://europl8.net/  decent guy who makes and runs the website, helped me out to prove the police wrong, great quality plates and 100% legal!

Does anyone know what plates you can use for the age of the car?
Black and white number plates can be used on the road if your car is older than 1972…
Why wifes Honda Civic does not have a BS number on the number plate as I don't think you needed it in 2001 and the car has the original number plates so have they become illegal?

A Quick summary of number plate law.

Number plates on vehicles made since 1st January 1973 must be:
  • Made from a reflective material
  • Display black characters on a white background for the front
  • Display black characters on a yellow background for the rear
  • Must not have a background pattern
  • Characters may be '3D'
The characters on a number plates purchased since 1st September 2001 must meet the following specifications:
  • 79mm high
  • 50mm wide (except for the number 1 or letter I)
  • 14mm Stroke
  • 11mm spacing between characters
  • 33mm spacing between groups
  • 11mm margins (minimum)
The characters on older style number plates (1973 - 2001) must meet the following specification
  • 89mm High
  • 64mm wide (Except for the number 1 or letter I)
  • 16mm stroke
  • 13mm spacing between characters
  • 38mm spacing between groups
  • 13mm margins (minimum)
The character spacing for pre-1973 numberplates is a bit different, but seeing as this doesn't apply to MK1 golfs I won't post it here.

The ONLY acceptable symbols to display on a UK number plate are
  • The EU symbol and GB national identifier.
  • The cross of St George
  • The Scottish Saltire
  • The Red Dragon of Wales
  • The union flag
(Plates with the national flags on are not acceptable for identification purposes outside of the UK, so you would still need a GB sticker in these instances.)

There is NO legal requirement for what the plate is made from, so pressed plates, stick on plates etc. are all legal, providing they meet the specification above and are clearly displayed.

Because of the age of the golf, you can display plates in either the old style or the new style characters, but any plates you buy as new will be in the new style characters and spacing, although if you hunted around it was possible to find places that would still make you plates in the old style, not sure if it still is however.

In addition to this, all number plates produced legally in the UK will have the postcode and name of the person or company who produced the places at the bottom of the plate. If you buy some plates that don't have this then you may find they are not legal. Anyone producing number plates legally will also require various proofs of address and identification from you, as well as proof you own the vehicle the plates are being produced for, if they don't ask for this when you order your plates, again you may find they are not legal.

It's your responsibility to ensure the plates you have on your vehicle are legal, so check them carefully if you order new plates as there are companies out there who produce plates which don't meet these criteria properly. You'd think they would be the ones in trouble, but it doesn't work like that.
