Handbrake pin

Someone broke the pin that holds the handbrake handle in the slotted grove . I replaced it with one I found in the junkyard, but it wasn't perfect and now it broke.
How did you guys fix this? I feel like sticking a bolt through with a lock nut.

How hard are you yanking that handle, I would of thunked that it would of broken before the pin.
I don't think the nut would clear the cover, and it isn't that expensive nor the keeper clip.

Yes the keeper clip is what is broken . I had a rusty one but it was half broken when they for it at the junk yard. The pin slipped oit from the hole i should say
