Front seatbelts

Post

Hi all

I have an issue with my front seatbelts where they don't automatically return back in once unclipped. They do return by they need a little help guiding them back in.

I know it's a common problem and is most probably caused by the seatbelts having too much friction I suppose to return

I remember reading a post where there are home remedies for this involving either a spray or heat? Can't be 100% sure though!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Pledge furniture polish worked well on mine and they now smell nice as well.
pull the seat belt all the way out and spray it on and polish it off with a cloth and work your way long the seat belt till it's all the way back in the pull it all the way out and in a couple of times.
Worked well for me.

I took my Belts off the retractor, and placed them in a bucket of hot water with a good de-greasing soap, and washed the Bejeezers out of them, rinsed and re-peat, until the water was clear.  Allowed to DRY.  Then I used "Pledge" and what a difference.

I had also noticed that the belts retracted fine when I removed the cover over them, as somehow it was adding friction or impeded the return.

I also replaced the retractors on the belts with ones from the Rear Seat of a Jetta, and still had retraction issues.

Cleaning the belts was what was totally needed.

Here is a how to that I did shows how to remove the belts from the retractors.

Sorry Mark no not yet I've been too busy with work!

Will def give this a go on the weekend because it's becoming so annoying having to constantly guide the seatbelts!
