Fitting TMI seat covers issue.

Post

How do the side seat adjusters remove.

The seat covers fit okay (not as good is I would expect at the price) but I need to remove the metal side/adjuster plates so I can cut around the pivot point, anyone point me in the right direction?

Been there.

The Fitment is all in the prep.
The side plates on the the lest and right sides of the seats are held in place by 3 pins.  That you push in and all the way through so the hole is empty, but you have to watch out as they do tend to get lost…  Going back you have to hook then on the top and roll them into position.

On the Adjuster side you have to remove the knob by removing the Phillips screw (has locktite blue) on it and is really a pain in the keister to remove, need a good #2 Phillips Screw Driver.

There are 3 pins on both sides.

I suggest that you read my how-to links in the Archive section to repair your bolsters as that also tells you how to remove the Bars that hold the seat covers to the frame and where the hog rings are located.

This is the point I'm looking to get to?

Also my front seat legs only have the leg itself and the white nylon guide, is the (what looks like another guide in front of the foot) available to purchase from somewhere?

Yes the seat glides are available.
There are 2 types,  both a 3 piece kit.

The difference is the front guide, as one is a har nylon piece that has a hole in it.

The other front piece is a clear silicone slider button.

Get the type that you need…
I think my old 81 used the bigger white ones.

My cabby uses the clear one.

It looks like mine have been cut off then 😩 it's a real PITA to get the seat to move backwards and forward so maybe that's the issue?

Usually it is the front glide that is the issue that and grease grit and grime in the seat rails.  I usually clean mine really good, then a thin layer of grease inside the rails…. If the front guide is garbage, then the seat is trying to slide steel on steel…..

Brian, a couple of questions if I may?

What year is your car, the guide that is on the leading edge of the foot isn't shown micro fishe for my year 83!

The thin steel rods that run along and across the seat foam, are they there to give the cover it's shape or do they serve a mechanical purpose? The covers I'm putting on don't have facility it use them so I'm unsure whether to leave them in place and put the covers over them or remove them completely?

One thing I've noticed is the large knob for adjusting the tilt of the back of the seat was on the outside on mine and all the images I've seen of others it has been on the inside next to the seat belt catch. Does that mean mine have had had the base and back pieces switched around?

I drive a 92, 93 Cabriolet.  It has the Sport line seats.

There are 2 rods on the upper sides of the seat bottom. abd back for that matter that hold the seat bolsters (side cushions for the thighs, and the kidneys.)  That the Standard golf didn't have.

Yes, the seat adjusters for the back movement are all on the inside as well as the fold over latch is on the outside.

I have seen where they put the backs or the bottoms on wrong….as well.

Cheers Brian, the base and backs have been mixed up for sure then. That will be corrected once I've finished wrestling with the covers
