Right, Hoping to get some advice of you wonderful people on here. Its not for me but my brother. He has just acquired a vw mk1 caddy in solid condition. Has the lumps and bumps as expected but on the whole solid.
Well, he wants to fully restore it and being a perfectionist he wants it to look prestige when finished.
He's been looking at having the caddy dipped, has anyone done this before? and is it the best way to go about it? Have been quoted £1800 for it to picked up dipped , 2 packed primed and returned for £1800.
Also had a quote in for a respray which was £5300!! I know a respray won't be cheap but does this sound a lot? about right? cheap?
If anyone knows of the best place to get a respray , something who will do a top job? or anyone that could do everything for him?
Any help would be very helpful to him.

That sounds a cheap quote for a full dip - I thought it was about £3.5k
To be honest I'd be really cautious about dipping. Seen a Mk1 shell done and it rusted in the roof gutter seams and around rear hatch seam. If it's in a real mess maybe get it soda blasted instead?
Ref the spray job, that is high-end, but depends who's doing it and finish being achieved. Top show quality job will cost that I guess easy. also depends on how much prep they'd do. You could certainly get a good job done for less

Thanks again mate. Yes he was worried about having it dipped. But didn't know the best way about going about it.
To be fair the body is in good shape, a few bumps that need sorting out and only one place that has rusted.
Is there a company, on here that could carry out all the work that he wanted? Money really isn't his biggest concern its getting the job done to look great and not look average.

Oh how I wish I had this problem
For £5300 for a respray you could buy one already finished for less.

It's just going to be a case of doing the rounds locally of car restoration companies and finding one that you can trust

Try to see some work they are doing and what sort of cars they are spraying/restoring. Don't just look at photos as they don't give a idea of what the paint finish is like close up.
As with anything you get what you pay for but can help with the price by stripping some/most of the car as it saves time them doing it.
Might help if you let us know what part of the country you live in as someone might know a place to recommend.

Thanks for all help so far. He lives in the Dorset. He's going to strip out the engine and everything so its all ready.
Hopefully he will be signed up on here soon and able to put up his own posts and questions as I'm sure he has many.
