Using mk4 clocks, key, and ignition barrell

Post

Does this make the wiring easier or harder?

Binned of the AGN engine and bought myself a AUM engine with a K03s turbo.

It came with loom, ecu, clocks, key, manifolds, I just really need a clutch/flywheel.

If I was to run it with the MK4 clocks, so I don't have to get my ECU decoded, how hard/complicated would the wiring be?

I've already made the MK4 clocks fit the MK1 dashboard and they look alright to be honest (Ill get some pics up soon)

Do I just need to modify the mk4 loom for it to go into my mk1 fusebox? Or is it harder than that?

It's a 1982 mk1 gti 1600cc

Thanks.

yeah thats pretty much it, the only annoying thing is many of the pins you need to get clocks powered wont be available on the mk1 clock loom so you'll have to run em separate to fusebox.

if you have a mooch around various vw/audi in scrapper you'll soon find mating connectors you can use :)

theres a lot of bits you can bin off like such as level sensor, abs, airbag, washer fluid low warning etc some can be disabled by earthign pins but some you'll have to get hold of a vag-com cable to disable such as abs and airbag warnings (info on this in the ross-tech wiki, you connect to the can-bus gateway and turn bits off)

you dont need to run the ign barel though you could take the reader coil off and tape the key/chip inside if you like. if you can get the reader coil over the mk1 lock then you could use the mk4 chip in say a rclick key fob or dremel a mk1 blade till it slots into the mk4 fob if you dont mind it being non-functional. (you could actually make it work if you also fit a mk4 golf CCM/central lockign module but thats another kettle of fish!)

On closer inspection of my loom, I only have the engine side of the loom with the small connector that goes into the ECU….do I need the other half of the loom to make it all work etc?

yup you need both parts of the ecu loom before you can get it going unfortunately :(

I can't for the life of me find another AUM loom. Like I said I've got the engine loom, with the small connector to the ECU, I just don't have the other halve. Would one from an AGU work? thanks

no sorry the ecu has a different plug plus the wiring is very different

Been told the BAM, AUQ and AUM looms are almost identical?

Just asked Vagtronics and they reckon they have a spare AUM loom, fingers crossed! ha

yes most dbw 4 cylinder looms are the same, but AGU is dbc so is no good to ya. some exceptions, for example the seat cupra only has 2 narrowband lambda probes, but the mk4 use a wideband pre-cat

5/6 pot fusebox loom is similar but has a few pins switched so again no good for a 4 cyl unless you are happy to swap a few pins about

Vagtronics do have the other part of my loom :D

It's £365 inc delivery for them to decode my ecu and adaptor my loom to go in my car.

Sounds alright to me. Saves using the clocks, key reader from the donor car :)
