The most information you could provide on both of these would be great as I'm still very undesided which one to go with.
Thanks in advance

Been watching 20v's lately and they're creeping down in price as the block/turbo etc.
But I think a 16v is more fitting to the car of that's what you like, if not I'd be tempted for a tfsi now over a 20v

Engine was cheap but it's everything else that goes with it..rebore for bigger KR pistons polished and ported head custom inlet manifold
CTN gearbox plus a Limited slip diff
G60 Supercharger plus rebuild
16v manifold and bigger exhaust
G60 Loom and chipped ECU
None of these parts are cheap..
But in my opinion its period for the mk1.
Don't get me wrong 20v turbos and 1.8t etc are nice but not for me.

As already said it all the extra parts that makes the 20vt more expensive than a non turbo engine conversion, such as turbo manifold, intercooler, radiator, engine mapping, suitable gearbox, more expensive clutch etc.sam1008 said
Just wondering what the cost difference is likely to be when choosing an engine conversion for my 1983 golf gti. Obviously know the abf is cheaper but by how much?

You should be able to use a lot more existing parts for the abf and it's easier to setup. And on bike carbs sounds

Some days I really want the abf for the cost, cleaner bay and just the fact it will be easier to install etc and other days I just want the power of the 20v

Thanks for the reply guys. Still no further with what I'm going to go for.

A worked ABF will outperform a stock 20VT any day of the week, my single throttle worked ABF made 20whp more than my son in law's 9N3 Polo Gti with Revo stage 1 (at 1680m altitude). At sea level the difference will be even bigger.

On a 16VG60 Digifant can be tweaked but it is always a compromise, believe me I have been there !! Even Jabba could of never get it quite right.
Also consider whether fuel consumption needs to come into your decision - carbed especially twin setups are very thirsty, whereas the same engine on EFI will give you as much a 10mpg more, not to mention the better power delivery.

I bought a mk3 gti 16v last night for a grand total of £200 - BARGAIN!
Even if it does have an oil leak…
Hopefully pull the engine out this weekend and see whats causing it.
Thanks for your responses. Much appreciated.
