Terrible handling ???

Post

Got 195/45/15 ( FALKEN 912 Tyres)  8J 15" alloys….they stick out a bit.  Had a pants suspension set up, and changed to AP Coilovers. Car still handles like , and my front wheels slid out yesterday in a bit of rain….is this because the tyres are stretched ????

i ran 195/45 yoko's on 7's with cheap coilies and upper and lower strut brace with my tyres just in the arches, handled fine, was difficult to understeer if anything on good roads in the dry

The front was higher than the back, so now sitting even with +- 45mm drop all round.  See if that helps, also now less crashy at the back.  will re do the wheel alignment.

The roads do get very slippy when we have a hot spell with little rain, see if it's any better in the dry or after we have had a good few days of rain as that will wash of all the oil etc of the road surface.

Thought that it may be weight distribution, so was going to make the front lower, with rear slightly higher, then saw my anti roll bar was not sitting in the rubber bush… on the drivers side.

All tightened up now, so will test tommorrow.

On second thoughts, going to look at AP and WEITEC shocks and spring kit….bye bye brand new coilovers…too bumpy.

Good plan.
I have eiback -40mm springs and std shocks on 15" steels with 195/50's. The handling is awesome

Tried a few with coilovers and it is definately not for me, but I am the wrong side of 40…

Still feels rubbish…like the front of the car is too light……………wheels spin on slight accelaration, especially on corners.   feel unsafe to go fast ?????

Anyone …..is it coz i have streched tyres ???  :ocf_emoticons__BangHead:

Its unlikely to be the small amount of stretch you have, but stretching tyre does limit their ability to flex on the rim making the point at which grip is lost come sooner. Do you know someone locally who would let you try their wheels for an hour? I have a set of p slots if you are near portsmouth...

Have you had your camber and toe checked?

Have you had your camber and toe checked?

This would be the first check for me! Full 4 wheel alignment camber, caster and toe. Just to confirm everything is how it should be.
That is if you are sure that it is not just the oil/diesel coming to the surface of the road after all of the rain!
Do you have plenty of tread on your tyres?
Can I ask what engine you have because I find it difficult to make my 1.3 slide so I'm thinking you have something a bit more powerful.

Got 2 l 16v ABF…tyres are new ,dunno if coilover are too hard ???

Could be too hard! You should be able to tell if your front is sliding away from you (understeering) or bouncing out! If that makes sense? I would be inclined to say its a mixture of power, wet roads and suspension set up but without driving it I couldn't say which one is causing most trouble! If you manage to find the reason please let us know

Your not likely to solve this on the Forum.
If I were in your shoes I would take it straight to a wheel & tyre shop and get the suspension checked & setup. Just make sure you set the height you want before as any adjustment afterwards will change the geometry.
Then you are working from a position of knowing the suspension is set up correctly and the rest of us will be able to advise.
