Modern 1.4T engine - will it become a popular conversion option?

I'm in two minds…. Yeah obvs you're going to want to use more modern tech as time goes on…. But the 1.8t and 1.9pd were the last of the great engines from vw. These 1.4 units are pretty unreliable and problematic at the best of times. 

I wouldn't fit one, nor would I purchase a mk1 with one fitted. 

Interesting - I've got an A4 with the EA211 engine, and I did wonder if it could be fitted. Wasn't aware of any reliability issues - but then I'm not as close to modern motoring as I used to be, maybe that's more to do with the previous 1.4t. I've been impressed with how it performs though for what it is.
I'd say the more obvious swap for future proofing would be electric. If I had another mk1 (and the money) I'd give it a go!
