Exhaust system

Post

Im after a little bit more noise from my new engine and as I plan to run twin webers on it I thought I may as well make the exhaust a bit more flowing too. Saying this I want to actually be able to enjoy my car and not have to wear ear plugs on long journeys or suffer from the drone caused by crappy big exhausts. I know I could get an off the shelf jetex system but they are probably better suited to bigger engines (mines only a 1.3 GT engine) and have a huge 2.25" bore. If i was to go down the custom exhaust route what sort of sized bore should I go for? would 1.75" be more moderate? and should I take the risk with using my local powerflow shop or go somewhere that I know will do a good job?

Ive bought a 4-2-1 manifold so I need to get my exhaust modified to fit that anyway so I might as well get the system changed while im at it!

Cheers,
Matt

The exit diameter of my manifold is 1.75" so my system should probably either that or smaller right? Otherwise it'll be overkill and sound like a saxo?

Just reading reviews of power flow and don't really trust my local dealer so if anyone knows of a good place in the east Midlands that does custom exhaust systems then  please let me know!

yeah id run 1.75" or maybe 2", 2.25" wont hurt but you wont really gain anythign either. that beign said if you upgrade in the future the 2.25" system will work for a 16v engine, 2" is 8v bore (on a mk2 golf)

I dont know really, not sure what my future plans are, I think ill go for 1.75" and if I need bigger I can just go for a jetex system.

Would it be worth me paying extra for stainless steel or is mild steel addequate? just thinking the cost different isnt that much and resale value of stainless owuld be better

Now need to find somewhere that will make exactly what i want…

it would depend on the price difference but yeah if its not too much for stainless go for that deffo. i had a mild jetex and the back box rotted out within a couple years, i was not pleased!

Ahh fair enough, I've heard good things about jetex but stainless is only available with jetex in 2.5" so I'll forget that, and try and fine a good place to get a custom system  thanks John!

Still need recommendations for customs systems in eastmidlands area or further if really worth it!!

Okay so I've not found anywhere decent at a good price so I'm tempted to go for a 2" jetex system, I don't want this to sound boy racer-like so will it be too big for a 1.3 or will I be safe? I need to know soon because I want to get ordering it to fit this weekend!

Cheers,
Matt

it will be fine performance wise, im not sure how loud the 2" jetex are though you may want to start a new thread with a relevant title asking for opinions! I know my jetex is pretty loud but its a 2.5" system on a mk2 golf with an ABF so not really relevant info for you

Yeah I might just bite the bullet and if it's too much I could always put a bigger mid sliencer in or something
