engine bay rubber fuel hose problems (cracking)

Post

hi , i recently replaced the fuel hoses inside the engine bay, (1.3 driver)

i bought the stuff on ebay, different sellers, different sizes etc.

put them all on and thought cool i won't need to worry about that for a while. (others were perished in places)

so after a few weeks the outer surface of these new hoses are all cracked, like the are gonna give any day.
the hoses all had the relevant iso numbers etc.. so why are they doing this?

i thought about changing to some of the clear tubing you can get, it states its suitable for fuel but i don't know what to believe now.

do you have any advice or and tips on where to get non cracking tubing from?

cheers

I usually buy rubber fuel hose from eurocarparts. They have it hanging up on racks, all different sizes. It's decent stuff and lasts for a long time.

I'm alaYs weary buying hose online, it took me ages to decide which braided hose to get for my 20v t, I opted for ptfe Teflon stuff in the end.

cheap fuel hose doesnt like modern fuel, and some are just rubbish. i bought a load of braided vac hose off ebay that lasted all of a couple months, into the bin and genuine vw stuff bought fine ever since

vw sell hose by the meter, they shouldnt need a part number but its N  90099601 or N  90099603 (2 spaces between the N and other numbers) for 5.5x3mm fuel line at £17.97+VAT per meter. As long as you buy good quality fuel hose you shouldnt need to go genuine.

but if you want OEM braided type vacuum hose the only decent stuff I've found is VW! the silicone vac hose off ebay is fine but not my cup of tea

when looking for fuel hose you need to find R9 grade fuel hose which is designed for todays fuel, there is still a lot people out there selling r6 grade fuel hose and this isnt suitable to the new chemicals that have started being added to fuel these days

I normally buy my rubber (and braided) hose from hydraulic suppliers, rated at 20bar pressure, much better quality than regular fuel hose but more expensive as well. Works well, haven't had any problems so far.

Thanks for the replies guys, I just don't trust eBay sellers these days. There are so many fake stuff on there now or BS claims.
