Conversion Advice from the Guru's Please help me :)

Hi guys

I bought a MK1 Golf with 16v Conversion on ebay as a project. The car is actually left hand drive and im in the process of converting it.

This forum has been amazing in helping me source all the parts needed

Couple of quick questions if someone could help:

1. Does anyone know if LHD seat runners are different to RHD as i have bought a set of RHD Based Retrimmed Recaro seats but not sure if they will fit as the Lift Handle will be on the opposite side for my runners. Am i best in sourcing a LHD Seat and cut the base off and weld them in place. Or can i switch the seats over from driver to passanger side and reweld the seat belts onto the frame onto the correct side. Just wanted to find out before i start stripping the seats out so i know where i stand.
The car runs a roll cage in the back with no rear seats so if its a issue I can just fix weld the passanger seat in but wanted th driver to move and forward.

2. I have removed the dashboard and im about to start switching everything over to Right hand side. Is it possible to buy a replacment steering column bracket that i can weld in on the right side…..The existing LHD mounts looks pretty sad so would like to change it.

3. This is going to be a long shot but thought someone may know. In the LHD car where the pedal box goes the floor seems stregthened and a slightly different patter to that in the right side…..I saw a few posts in the past where RHD cars need a stregthening plate fitting as the bulkhead splits. I was going to fit this stregthening panel at the same time.
My Main concern is that the Right hand side floor area where the pedal box mounts to is different slightly in design to the existing Left hand side mounting. Do i need a specific Right hand drive pedal box or can i buy a weld in panel to make the Right Hand Floor meet up with my pedal box.

If anyone can offer any advice on the above id be really greatful.

1. no, but early and late runners differ (late being mk1 cabrio after 1984). but only in that the front bracket is swapped over so the slider handle is opposite side. the later cab seats are same fitting as mk2 golf. theres a thread on how to convert them if this bothers you, its in the how2 section. if the bases are genuine recaro its simply a case of remove the handles and swap them over between the seats. if modded mk1/2 bases this may or may not work depending what seats they were to start with, see my conversion thread.

2. put up a wanted i recon, try to find someone stripping a scrap shell

3. as per 2 really, not sure about the shell being strengthened
