Catch tanks

Post

Hi there, im going to be fitting a catch tank to breath my 16vg60 conversion.  So far ive thought about using one with two feeds, one from the block from a modified rear charger bracket and the other from a modified rocker cover.  I was thinking about using one with a filter on the top but ive recently been reading about the mess the oil vapour can make in the engine bay which i really want to avoid.  Im interested in what other people are using, where its mounted and how well it works.  Anyone running a catch tank in their mk1 id really like to hear what your running and how its working for you, thanks.

I fitted a catch tank on mine as the K-Jet air metering flap was completely gunged up when I stripped it during the rebuild, located mine on the front crossmember and used the original block breather supply to the can via modded hoses and out of the can back to the airbox where it plumbs in just after the air filter, done roughly 1000 miles on it no problems and noticed it had filled the catch can a cpl of cm, so drained it out just the other day, much better to trap the crud in there than breathe on it I reckon, obviously yours is slighlty different being a charger though, cpl of pics attached anyhow, hope it helps.

Hi there, lovely looking engine bay by the way!.  Thats what im looking for, solutions to the problem.  Like you say my situation is different to yours, my intercooler takes up the whole of the front space in the engine bay leaving me with less mounting options.  Im planning on having a top fill custom rad made with built in oil cooler which should free up some space and allow me to mount a catch tank where the water expansion bottle would usually sit.  My next problem is how do i avoid breathing oil mist all over my engine bay.  Thanks for the reply! looking forward to seeing how others have dealt with this.
