Cable change shifter mod.

Can the shifter from a corrado G60 02A be mounted  in the exhaust tunnel ? I wanna keep my centre console  but it wont fit over the shifter .can I use a different shifter .I taught i seen somewhere the 02A shifter been modified and also a m.k1 golfs shifter hole been cut with a grinder for the new shifter.I cant remember where I seen it though.

02j shifter is a more compact unit and will fit better. I put 2 20mm hacksaw cuts at the front of my shifter hole and bent the metal up. Fits a treat. I got mine from an A3 1.8T - perfect length.
The exhaust almost touches the bottom of the shifter so I have it wrapped with heat webbing.

Plus one for an a3 unit, mine was a nice tight throw

Yes, 02J shifter is more precise. I paid 15 quid each from a scrappy. Not as easy to find as people make out though, in my experience.

Hi sorry to hijack this thread but I am planning on doing the same thing. I already have the shifter and cables from a polo gti, I now just need to source an o2j shifter tower. I was just wondering are the shifter towers on all o2j gearboxes the same or is there a certain car I need to get one off?

if using a 02j gearbox to start with u be fine. if starting with a 02a and wanted to fit a 02j tower in gearbox u have 2 types of 02j towers. either smooth shaft or ribbed. i find that mk4 golf 02j towers fir the 02a

Cheers, I'm starting with an 02a so just need to find an 02j shifter tower now, don't seem that easy to find, may have to try a few breakers

Not sure about the code just know its the standard box from a g60 corrado. I'd definitely be interested, let me know if it doesn't sell
