an oldie but a goodie... KR block sensors (positions)

Post

they're not all the same....

had to post as i cant find anything using the search but that doesn't mean its not here, i just cannot get the right phrase:ocf_emoticons__BangHead::ocf_emoticons__BangHead:The 3 sensors /switches on the end of the block and the one at the back up top are the issue, i know the three on the end are all rated the same 'pressure' but they all monitor different things but what wire goes on which one, i'm having some minor issues that relate to all three switches so i need to get them right before i look elsewhere. (its a KR engine in a clipper cab (non-gti) It drives great but could be better….

the lowest one goes into the water jacket as water poured out when i replaced it so i guess thats for the coolant temp, but what color wire is that O_oone is for oil pressure, but which one and which colour wire O_othe last one is for cold start possibly ?  that is linked inline to the other large brown temp switch thing maybe ? but again what colour wire should this be O_owires are standard KR loom colours, changing them around affects the car in different ways so whats the correct postion for each one?

anyone know….??

found this in a  thread on clubgti

seems to confirm that all the sensors although the same their location determines what is measured…. as i thought.

doesnt matter which wire goes where, they're all coolant temp sensors and same rating. if anything the dash one should go into the blind hole as it wont be seeing direct water temp, more important for the isv green/red one to get a more accurate reading. but in real life there will be next to sod all difference anyway :)

well having had them in every combination possible i can let you know with confidence that 'sod all difference' is in fact a difference, and its not the fact the sensors are all rated the same, its the fact they are all connected to different things, thats like saying all your light bulbs are the same but you dont want your headlights on when you hit the brake !

with them as shown in the picture the cold start is spot on, the coolant guage (thats why there is a pic of coolant on it) is reading the coolant temp and is more believable and fluctuates less which is a big plus and defiately the best way for my car

have you tried swapping the actual sensors round? they might be reading slightly different. all newish and genuine?

The sensors are all genuine, and using the diagram above i can confidently say that this orientation is correct, cold start is spot on, guages are perfect and the engine just feels 'correct' when its running right through the rev range, when i had the wires in different positions i had cold start issues (lots of cranking), the engine would rev awkwardly on first start, and tickover speed seemed to vary when the engine was up to temp.

All issues solved and car drives like a dream, just by swapping the wires about.

now a leaky roof to sort out LOL
