ABF Weber ignition questions!

Post

I'm putting at some point my ABF into my new Mk1 Golf, its a long term thing but need some tips! The car currently has an ABF on bike carbs, but I wont be having the engine with it. Its currently got a 16v KR dizzy wired up to a Mk2 ignition amplifier/TCI unit thing, and it works. But I can't see that it can have any advance control! When I come to put mine in, what should I use? (Also are KR and ABF dizzys the same)? The main problem is I won't haven ECU, the only real electronic on it will be the temp sensors and the ignition, so I don't want to mess around wiring in an ECU for one part of it! What are my options?

You need an ecu to control spark, and spark alone if on carbs. The mk2 setup will do this and has its own manual advance by turning the dizzy a touch.

The Kr and abf dizzy are different, abf is set and electronically advances.

What the TCI set up? But the TCI set up can't do the timing advance! I have read that a 1.9 205 dizzy cap works, but does the actual dizzy fit as well? As they have mechanical and vacuum advance.

I think brad is referring to the mk2 16v setup, it replaces the basic tci setup as found on the carbs as a drop in replacement:

1 - Earth to battery -ve
2 - KR ign controller plug
3 - TCI-H plug
4 - Black - KR ign controller & TCI-H ign live - terminal 15 side of coil
5 - Green - Coil trigger - terminal 1 side of coil
6 - Brown - Earth to cylinder head
7 - Blue/white - Temp sensor feed (use one of the 3 on the side of the head)
8 - Dizzy plug
9 - red/yellow - Fuel pump relay earth trigger
\- black/yellow - idle switch feed (12v feed with throttle shut)

Indeed I was, using 205 gear is also used but why on earth would you wanna complicate it? It's simple using oem stuff.

I complicated it when I used megajolt, but that was so I could map my ignition to suit mods.
