02J gear cable help

Hi, I'm fitting a mk4 golf gear selector to my mk1.  I have an 02J box also out of a mk4 1.8t golf.  Can anyone tell me the best cables to use with this set up including part numbers please.  Ive tried a set of Lupo diesel cables but they don't fit, I believe the bracket that holds them to the gearbox is different to the bracket on my box.  Ive gone through the set up procedure and one cable seems too short and the other too long.  The selector tower is mounted underneath the car and the cables are running up over the steering rack.  Cheers.

I have very recently done this and I used the shifter from a polo, the cable lengths were a really good fit. As far as the bracket goes, I'm not too sure as I was using an 02A gearbox from a corrado so it may by slight different. I just bought a bracket from Ebay someone was selling as an 02J one and it fitted ok

I have the same setup as you and use Lupo GTI cables.

Last time I looked they were still available from VW at about 59 quid a cable

when using a 02j gearbox u need the 02j bracket that sits on the gearbox. your mk4 cables and bracket should be fine under car
